Bolt has announced the expansion of its popular ride-hailing service from Southampton into the New Forest region. The move comes just in time for the festive season, where the company anticipates a significant surge in demand, projecting a staggering 30% increase in popularity.
The decision to extend the service has been prompted by the already high demand witnessed during October and November. On 31 October 2023, Bolt experienced an impressive 50% surge in popularity compared to preceding days, indicating a growing reliance on its ride-hailing services during inclement weather.
The New Forest extension is expected to be particularly well-received, as many existing customers have either opened the app within the new operating area, covering locations such as Beaulieu, Lymington and Brockenhurst, or have concluded their rides after starting from Southampton.
The expansion aims to facilitate easy transportation to and from Southampton, enhancing the overall experience for both passengers and drivers. This period is crucial for the ride-hailing platform, providing a myriad of transportation needs, including trips to parties, airports and train stations.
Londoners can now schedule Bolt rides in advance amid cold weather demand
The extension also benefits drivers registered with the Bolt platform, offering increased earning potential and flexibility. Public transport hubs, such as train and bus stations, are expected to become popular pick-up and drop-off locations, with the service acting as a convenient first- and last-mile travel solution.
Markian Iwaniw, Senior Operations Manager at Bolt, said: “The run-up to Christmas is a busy time for everyone, including passengers and drivers who use Bolt. Since shared mobility, including ride-hailing, has such a crucial role within the wider transport ecosystem during this time, and drivers registered on the Bolt platform naturally play a significant part in this, we thought it would be beneficial for both sides to expand the area in which they can access our valuable service.”
Beyond this period, Bolt envisions continued use of the expanded service, acting as a convenient connection to popular local attractions such as the Beaulieu National Motor Museum and the Wightlink ferry service to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight from Lymington.
