Seamless trans-border travel will soon become a reality after Calypso Networks Association (CNA) announced its proposal for the Triangle trans-border interoperable ticketing solution between France and Belgium.
Calypso, the secure and open interoperable standard for contactless ticketing, was established through a European project in the late nineties. It has developed the Triangle – a Calypso ticketing application dedicated to interoperability. The Triangle application is integrated within a card or a mobile phone and can be shared between all transport networks that accept Triangle. From autumn 2015 the service will be implemented between Lille, Nord Pas de Calais in France and Hainaut in Belgium. The Triangle application will be installed on the PassPass card from Nord Pas de Calais and the Belgium wide MOBIB card. Calypso believes Brussels will be next city to adopt the interoperable ticketing system.
Triangle proposes to answer the needs of interoperability between different regions with opposing tariffs; this makes the system ideal for regular commuters and occasional users who may use the service for business or tourism.
Customers from both countries will benefit from the new service at the start of 2016.
