TfGM to launch public consultation for Tameside transport interchange

On Saturday 15 August Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) will launch a public consultation on the proposed transport interchange in the borough of Tameside.

The proposed Tameside transport interchange forms part of a government initiative, known as ‘Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal Programme’ which provides funding for projects that benefit the local area and economy.

The interchange project aims to improve access between buses, trams, bicycles and taxis and to increase connectivity across Tameside. The area will also benefit from improved pedestrian routes from the interchange to the town centre and train station.

The new facility, which will be located next to the existing Ashton bus station site, will offer better access for all passengers and feature an attractive concourse, modern waiting areas, cycle parking, improved security and easier access to travel information and tickets.

The consultation with TfGM will take place over a four week period. Members of the public are invited to meet with staff, find out more and air their views at Ashton Bus Station from 10am to 5pm on 15 August 2015. TfGM have also arranged drop-in sessions at the rail station on Monday 17 August from 4-8pm and Saturday 22 August from 10-5pm and Arcades Shopping Centre on Saturday 29 August and Tuesday 1 September from 10-5pm.

Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “Tameside’s new transport interchange will make it easier for people to travel to job, training and leisure opportunities. I encourage people to give us their views either at an event or by visiting the TfGM web site to ensure we meet the borough’s needs.”

Work is due to start on site in winter 2016/17, with the interchange being open for use in late 2018.
